The Financing Readiness Program seeks to empower SMEs to move from opportunity to action — unlocking growth capital, building investor confidence, and positioning their enterprises as credible, resilient, and sustainable partners in inclusive economic development.

It is a comprehensive, customized initiative designed to equip small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with the technical knowledge, practical skills, and confidence needed to strengthen their resilience, accelerate growth, and become truly investment-ready. This hands-on programme goes beyond theory by combining expert-led sessions, peer learning, and individualized coaching to address the real challenges SMEs face when seeking finance. It helps businesses align their operational and strategic needs with investor expectations, build a compelling financial story, and establish meaningful connections with aligned funders.

By the end of the programme, participating SMEs are able to:

  i.     Clearly articulate their business model, growth strategy, and financing needs in line with market expectations.

ii.     Produce accurate and investor-ready financial statements, forecasts, and business plans.

iii.     Understand and meet due diligence requirements of banks, equity providers, and blended finance facilities.

iv.     Integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations to enhance credibility and appeal to sustainable investors.

v.     Confidently engage with investors and financiers through professional pitches and informed negotiations.

vi.     Build resilience by identifying diversified funding opportunities aligned with long-term growth and impact goals.

VALUE4HER is a continental initiative by AGRA aimed at strengthening women’s agribusiness enterprises and enhancing their voices and advocacy across Africa. The initiative seeks to  extend support to  women-led agribusinesses in their efforts to access competitive regional and global markets and Strengthen their knowledge, skills and capabilities. 

It is expected that at the through VALUE4HER initiative, women owned agripreneurs will acquire the requisite skills to  improve and scale up  their agribusinesses  for growth and higher returns. The general outcome is to enhance women participation through facilitating collective action and advocacy to level the playing field for women’s entrepreneurship.

The concept of Agripreneurship which is the focus of this training manual is defined as “entrepreneurship whose main business is agriculture or Agriculture- related”. In this regard, all aspects of agri-business and value addition of agricultural products fall within the realm of Agripreneurship. Relatedly, for purposes of this manual, business ventures that are considered enablers of agriculture with respect to production, advisory, innovation, processing and marketing also falls within this definition
